Medicine

I am uniquely qualified to take a sweeping view of medicine and draw connections between medical subjects for both pre-medical and pre-veterinary students. My Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and years of practice in veterinary medicine provide clinical interest stories to highlight significant disease processes, regardless of species. Physiology is about similar processes before it is about disparate ones. After all, it is estimated that we share approximately 90% of our DNA with cats! Additionally, my Master’s in Biomedical Visualization (which had a human focus) gives me a powerful understanding of the importance of visual imagery and 3-dimensional thinking in medicine. Central to all of this is a foundation in critical thinking.

Topics we think intently and critically about are:

Advanced biology and genetics: organizing thousands of relevant disease agents and many thousands of other causes of pathology

A didactic illustration showing radiographic indications and planning, as well as step-wise surgical procedure, for total knee arthroplasty

Developing diagnostic skills, patient-listening skills, 3-dimensional visual thinking for procedural skills

A digital painting of a human heart, anterior view

Achieving individual wellness (meta thinking for students under the stress of studying for the MCAT and gearing up for the marathon that is medicine)

A fictional home page for an app used to learn more about da Vinci robotic surgery

Responsibility, humility, leadership and population health
