My educational foundation has been an interweaving path of study in biology/biochemistry, laboratory medicine, psychology and behavior, genetics/genetic counseling, clinical veterinary medicine, veterinary acupuncture, art, and medical art.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology with a concentration in Psychosocial Aspects of Human Congenital Disorders from Stanford University in 1996. I graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of California Davis in 2002. I had been practicing veterinary medicine for over 11 years when I was bitten by the bug to incorporate art and visual communication into my career. I acquired my Master of Science in Biomedical Visualization (medical illustrating) from University of Chicago at Illinois in 2015.
My educational experiences have uniquely prepared me to have both a sweeping view of human processes as well as a profound appreciation for the connections between seemingly disparate subjects. My greatest teaching strength is my ability to paint connections between genetic and cellular phenomena, clinical stories, and human experience for informative and enlightening discussions with students preparing for futures in fields involving biology/health, human behavior, and/or applied art.
